Day3: Lake Laveille. Sunny, warm..
7:30 - Woke up, after waiting for the morning rain to stop.. Today was our day to do nothing. This is where the extra day that we'd added on the way in was to be spent. Mainly, this was our day or relaxing, healing, and just enjoying what we'd worked towards.. I'd read that Lake Laveille was Algonquin's most beautiful lake, mainly because of the extreme difficulty in getting to it. I tend to agree. It was beautiful.

GF tries her hand at open-fire cooking. :)
Breakfast was Blueberry buttermilk Pancakes made with dried blueberries..

Urp!
This was indeed our veg day.
We took this chance to explore our island a little further. We sunbathed on the big flat rock jutting out into the lake on the west side, we attempted fishing. Read "attempted"..
The worms that we had purchased on the way in were dead. Not just dead. Dead and rotten. They stunk. Y'know, bobber fishing with artificial worms doesn't work. Of course, we tried anyhow. :)

After the day before, the canoe looks good upside down on the shore.
More Veg..

I'm just an unhealthy, drinkin, smoking fiend.. But the coffee tasted ooh so good...
Lunch was Klick with cheese on the leftover onion buns from tuesday's supper. After our portage day experience, we are determined to eat all the heavy food.. We are now meal planning by weight.
Dragged another tree from atop the hill and sawed it into handy pieces. We're rocking for fuel now. :)
Made Kool-aid and mixed it with vodka..
Napped. Vegged.

Gf. Solitude.
We went for a walk, and discovered an unlisted campsite on the other side of the island. It would appear that this is one for either the fisheries folks, or park personel. It's far enough away that the folks on the real campsite on the island won't notice it, but still pretty convenient for a boat launch. I'm assuming it's park folk, due to the presence of lots of wood chopped up with a chainsaw, and an official latrine box.. They've actually got a picnic table at this site...
On the way back we spotted bear stool which I still think is strange for a small island. It was old, however, but I still doubt it would be a hold-over from the time the ice was on the lakes. I guess there were bear on our island...
Supper was beef-noodle-vegetable soup powder with the smoked sausage. It made for greasy food, but grease is good. :) Remember.. We're eating the heavy food now. :)

After the worms died, I had to try something for bait.. And
my shrivelled piggies seemed
as good of a candidate as any....
Boiled new pot of water for canteens the next day.
We've decided that we're going to make the run to Opeongo the next day. We're due to stay at dickson, but GF figures (and I agree) that it would be good to get the 5km portage out of the way in the afternoon if we can move fast enough.
We pack up all of the non-essential gear, and hang the food pack. Breakfast is going to be a cold one, and we're going to make a big push back to Opeongo.
Darkness falls, and we fall asleep soon after. Tomorrow is going to be a long day...
